KOCHI: Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala on Sunday criticized the investigation team for not taking strong action against those who allegedly committed the rape and murders of the Walayar sisters. While demanding strong action against those who misled the investigation, he added that what happened in the Walayar rape case is sabotage similar to that of Kathua and Unnao cases.
His Facebook post read, "What happened in the Walayar rape case is sabotage similar to that of Kathua and Unnao cases. No Keralite can restrain from reacting against such atrocities. A reinvestigation must be conducted and that too with a central agency.'
The team, that investigated the Walayar rape case, has been receiving heavy criticism from all corners ever since the acquittal of the four accused. The court acquitted the accused after the prosecution failed to submit proper evidence regarding the crime. The two sisters, aged 13 and 9, were found hanging at their home last year within a gap of two months.
Though the local police referred to the deaths as unnatural, the case was handed over to Narcotic cell DySP following huge protest. Post mortem reports have revealed that the two girls were subjected to rape.
