THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The 16th session of the 14th Kerala Assembly began here on Monday. It is for the first time that the house is being convened after the crucial by-polls held in six constituencies. V K Prasanth, K U Jenish Kumar, T J Vinod, Shanimol Usman and M C Kamaruddin, who got elected from Vattiyoorkavu, Konni, Ernakulam, Aroor and Manjeshwaram assembly segments respectively are the new MLAs sworn in today. The MLAs were sworn in after paying tributes to former chief minister Sheila Dikshit and former minister Damodaran Kalasseri soon after question hour.
The first to swear in was K U Jenish Kumar who won from Konni. Then it was the turn M C Kamaruddin (Manjeswaram), V K Prashanth (Vattiyoorkavu), Shanimol Usman (Aroor) and T J Vinod from Ernakulam. Muslim League MLA Kamaruddin took his oath in Kannada. Though Mani C Kappan took his oath of office earlier, this is his first day in the assembly.
Significant Bills, including 16 Bills to replace the ordinance promulgated by the Governor, would come up during the present session.
Bills that would be taken up include Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (Amendment) Bill 2019, the Kerala Anganwadi Workers and Anganwadi Helpers (Amendment) Bill 2019, the Kerala Cooperative Hospital Complex and the Academy of Medical Sciences and Allied Institutions (Taking over and Management) Bill 2019 and the Kerala Panchayat Raj (Amendment) Bill 2019.
The discussion and voting on the Supplementary Demands for Grants in the budget for the Financial Year 2010-20 would be held on November 5.
