A video, which shows a policeman scolding a man who attempted to settle an accident case by bribing, is currently doing the rounds on social media. The policeman shown in the video is Guruprasad Ayyappan, the Civil police officer at Kolam East station. The incident came to light after the person who attempted to bribe handed over an apology to the Sub-inspector. It was PR Sabu, the Assistant Editor at Information and Public Relations Department, who revealed the incident through a Facebook post.
His Facebook post read, ' The crime SI at Kollam East police station received a different kind of apology the other day. It was the apology from a man who understood that you can no longer find a policeman who will scratch his head for a Rs 500 note. The man initially thought that the police were seeking a bribe for not filing a motor vehicle accident case against his father. He then attempted to handover Rs 500 to a policeman and in return, received a mouthful of scoldings. Following this, he wrote an apology to the SI.
However, there was another twist to the tale when the officials discovered that the man had planned to secretly record the handing over of the bribe. He had mentioned this too in his apology. The policeman, Guruprasad Ayyappan, revealed that this is the first time he has faced such a situation in his 21-year long career. According to him, the incident is a recognition of the police force's sincerity.'
