THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The protest against the acquittal of the accused in Walayar case is growing louder. The repercussions of this protests were even felt in the Assembly.

Though the government and police have been swearing that they will appeal against the verdict, both the police and government have been facing the fury of people.

Doctor and Writer Shimna Azeez has commented on a clause in the police report..

“What…, sex by mutual consent? That too the consent given by children of tender ages 11 and 9!! What do those kids know about giving consent to this? Even with mutual consent sexual contact with girls below 18 years is a crime.

Where does this strange phrase of mutual consent come from?

And finally, those who did that heinous crime walked out scot free, after making the case appear as suicide cases. Even the shadow of justice didn’t fall on those small kids, let alone true justice.

For those kids, it was an irreparable loss and for their parents it is all tears for ever… Those who had high expectations about them, they becomes a story that ended in midway (sic)…”
