THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In light of the death of two-year-old after falling in a borewell in Tamil Nadu, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has directed to cover all borewells that are left open in the state. Even though there are reports of National Disaster Management Authority that there aren’t any borewells left open in the state, CM Vijayan said he has directed the department to strictly check and cover borewells if any is left open.
He said that the check should be made on a district basis. During the 2012-13 period, it was found that there aren’t any borewells left open in the state. However, 8258 new borewells were dug last year alone. The details of borewells made by private agencies were not included in this, CM said. He added that directions have been passed on to finance, water, and local self-government departments.
