THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Rains have intensified in the state as part of Cyclone Maha formed over Lakshadweep across the Arabian Sea. Orange alert has been sounded in ten districts in the wake of heavy rains all over the state. Orange alert has been sounded in Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasargod districts. Red alert has been sounded in Lakshadweep where there are chances for heavy losses in the rains and in hurricane.
There will be heavy rains in the state for three more days. In the meanwhile, six people who ventured into the sea for fishing are reported missing. Two people from Azhithala who went to the sea in their boat Toufique and four from Vatakara are missing.
Heavy rains are lashing the state since last night in many places. However, the state will experience heavy rainfall and storm as a result of Maha. Following this, a high alert has been proclaimed in the coastal areas of the state. Fishermen have been warned against going into the sea. While asking the public and authorities to be cautious, it has also warned about the possibilities of strong wind and high tides in the coastal areas.
