THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Following the setback suffered in the Vattiyoorkavu by-election, Congress has decided to continue its ties with the Nair Service Society(NSS). A recently held KPCC meeting observed that the stand of NSS is more valuable than votes.
According to the Congress leadership, NSS has taken an important stand in opposing the BJP. Moreover, the party leaders felt that the NSS must be extended all kinds of support for its assistance during the by-election period. Meanwhile, certain leaders observed that the party was unable to maintain a communal balance in selecting the candidates for the by-election. Others also criticized the party's move to field its MLAs as the candidates for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
According to senior leader K Muraleedharan, those leaders who apparently consider themselves above the party, went on to claim themselves as the candidates. Such leaders are the main culprits for the party's defeat, he said. He also pointed out that the RSS had leaked several votes to the CPM in Vattiyoorkavu. Several others pointed out that while the organizational system of CPM is pretty strong, Congress is unable to strengthen its base.
