SRINAGAR: A suspected militant was killed during an encounter in Bandipora district of Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday, sources said. The gunfight took place at Lawdara village which is around 50 km away from Srinagar.

The encounter began when the security officers conducted a search operation following reports of the presence of militants in the area. According to sources, the militants opened fire on the security personnel, who retaliated, and in the ensuing gunfight, a terrorist was killed.

The identity and group affiliation of the terrorist killed is yet to be ascertained, the officials said.
