NEW DELHI: The railway catering board has decided to hike the price of food products distributed inside trains. As there is an increase in catering tariff rates, food prices will be effected in Rajadhani, Shatabdi, Duronto and express trains. The actual prices will be published on the railway website within 15 days. It has also been decided to include regional food from different states on the menu. A passenger can pay for his food when he buys a ticket. If one opts not to buy food, they need to pay only for the ticket.
The price for meals in mail/express trains have been hiked from Rs 50 to Rs 80. There is a new item in the menu-rice and chicken curry which costs Rs 130. Vegetable biriyani-Rs 80, egg biriyani-90, chicken biriyani-Rs 110. The railway has given strict directions not to provide any other food that’s not there in the menu. This system will be implemented only after 120 days.
