CHALAKKUDY: A 37-year-old mother was recently arrested in connection with the murder of her husband. The mother is identified as Shali. Earlier, the police had also arrested her 19-year-old son Balu for the murder. Shali's husband, Babu who lived at Konnakkuzhi, was found dead a year ago. It was Balu who made the revelation about the murder while he was arrested in connection with a theft case.

According to the police, Babu got seriously injured after he was attacked by both Balu and Shali for coming drunk to the house. It was Balu who first struck Babu with a chair. Later, Shali too struck him with a rod before taking him to the hospital. Balu also said Shali later forced him to spread the news that Babu got killed due to an accident. Later, Shali had informed the hospital authorities that her husband got seriously injured after falling from a tree. It was also found that Shali had destroyed the chair and rod used for the murder.

Babu, who got seriously injured in the attack, died two months later. According to sources, he had never regained consciousness after the attack. Soon after his death, Shali left the place with her lover. According to sources, it was Chalakkudy DySP who received information regarding Shali and her lover staying in an isolated house in Aloor. She was soon arrested by a team led by DySP CR Santhosh.

Once Shali left the house and her children, Balu was forced to take up the responsibility of his siblings, police said. Following this, Balu got involved in various thefts in order to look after his siblings. Police also added that the siblings of Balu have been lodged at a children's home.
