SULTHAN BATHERY: The death of Shehala Sherin, a fifth class student of Government Sarvajan High School, after she was bitten by a snake, is sparking a wave of outrage and protests all over the state. The students of the school are staging a protest. They shouted slogans against the teachers. They carried placards that she was killed and hung a snake on their necks symbolically. They showered harsh criticisms against the teachers.
Meantime, many including the district judge reached the school and examined. The Kerala High Court has directly intervened on the issue. The state has taken over the issue. Strict action should be taken against those who committed the flaws. This tragedy must end here. The judge said there would be steps for that. A comprehensive report and action on that will be taken after convening a meeting of all concerned officials without compromising on a mere inspection, the judge said.
Panchayat secretaries have been instructed to directly inspect the security of schools in Wayanad. The education department has also directed to ensure safety in schools. The service of forest department has been sought to deal with the presence of reptiles.
