WAYANAD: A student and her father received a threat for responding against the school after Shehala Sherin died of snakebite in Sulthan Bathery. Some identified people of the area threatened Vismaya, classmate of Shehala, and her father, soon after they gave their statements to the representatives of child rights commission. Vismaya and her friends’ response to the media have disturbed them. They threatened Vismaya and her family saying that if they intend to tarnish the image of Govt Sarvajana Shool in Sulthan Bathery, both will suffer tomorrow and will be isolated.

Vismaya said no one taught her anything and will speak for Shehala again. Ministers C Raveendranath and Sunil Kumar, who visited the victim’s house, had expressed apology to her parents. After coming out of the house, both the ministers termed the incident as ‘unfortunate and painful’. We have the best educational system in Kerala, a huge leap in the education sector has been witnessed and it is not right to criticise the education department on this issue, the education minister said.

The minister asked not to look at everyone badly for the crime committed by some. Stringent action will be taken against those responsible. The two ministers later visited the school. They sat on Shehala’s bench and watched the hole from where the snake came. After sitting in the office for some time, left after giving some directors to education secretary A Shajan. There were widespread protests from all sides after the death of Shehala.
