THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: As the confusions surrounding KPCC reorganisation continues to prevail, Congress is preparing to sort out its plan for the upcoming elections for local self-governing institutions. It is learnt that the ward committees of the party will soon undergo reorganisation as part of this preparation. The KPCC leaders have reportedly discussed this matter with respective DCC members.

As per reports, the reorganisation of the ward committees will take place within December 31. It is learnt that the leadership is planning to form 21-member ward committees that consist of a president, 2 vice presidents, treasurer and 5 general secretaries. It must be noted that the ward committees had not undergone any sort of reorganisation in the last few years.

The candidates for the local body elections will be determined by these ward committees. Neither the KPCC nor the DCC will interfere in this. A senior Congress member said that the ward committees will have complete power to choose the candidates. According to him, it was this policy that helped the party win 70% seats in the 2010 elections. However, the party was unable to implement this policy in 2015 elections due to conflict among the party members, he added.

The leadership has also announced that the ward committee members will start house visiting programs from January onwards. The committees will also conduct a survey to study the social, communal environments of the people in the respective wards. It is also learnt that the party intends to raise funds for the election through the house visiting program. Further decisions regarding this will be taken in the meeting of the DCC presidents which will be held in Ernakulam later this month.
