KOCHI: In a shocking report that has come out, about a hundred nuns left churches in Kerala to get settled in foreign countries.
This finding came out in a study conducted by Catholic Priests And Ex-Priest Nuns Association. The number of priests leaving churches is also not less. Association Chairman Reji Njellani said that about hundred priests have also left for foreign countries.
He was speaking against the backdrop of certain shocking revelations made by Sister Lucy Kalappura in her autobiography.
“The association was formed in 2015 as part of Open Church movement with the intention to lend a helping hand to those who left churches. Later we came across many cases involving ex-priests and nuns. Most of them are victims of sexual assaults including homosexual assaults.
They denounced holy aprons and fled churches and most of them went abroad. Though many mysterious deaths happen in churches, they don’t come to light.
Most of the issues arises from wealth of churches. That is why the association has sought the implementation of Church Act.
Believers should not face any inconvenience related to Church customs. The wealth reaching churches should be properly accounted.
Following the release of Sister Lucy Kalappura’s autobiography, she has been at the receiving end of character assassination through social media. The facts said by her are similar to the ones said by ex-priests and nuns in their letters to the association. In most cases only writings happen and no action is taken.”
