THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Child Welfare Board has backtracked from its earlier statement that Kaithamukku housewife’s children had eaten sand due to starvation.

Child Welfare Board General Secretary S P Deepak has said that the Child Rights Commission’s findings in this regard was true and the Board was not for any confrontation with the Commission over this issue.

Deepak informed this in a press release on Saturday. The Child Welfare Board had earlier come out with the finding, rather allegation, that the starving children had to eaten sand sate their hunger.

But later, the Child Rights Commission said that the children eating sand was a hearsay and there was conspiracy behind the report.

The Commission even alleged that the Child Welfare Board members had added the wrong information regarding sand eating in the complaint and got it signed from the children’s mother.
