KOLANCHERY: Latest report suggests that the state government is planning to increase the fees for vehicle emission tests by Rs 20 to Rs 50. It is learnt that the government has already accepted a technical committee's report which suggested the hike.

The committee has also reportedly redetermined the qualifications of the technicians in the vehicle pollution testing centres. Apart from possessing SSLC or equivalent certificates, the technicians must also possess training certificates from the Institute Of Driver Training And Research, Kerala, Edappal.

It must be noted that those vehicles found without necessary pollution certificates will be asked to pay a heavy fine of Rs 2000. The pollution certificates are valid for a period of six months.

The new pollution test fees are mentioned below (old fees mentioned within brackets)

Two-wheelers- Rs 80 (60)

Three-wheelers petrol- Rs 80 (60)

Three-wheelers diesel- Rs 90 (60)

Light motor vehicles petrol- Rs 100 (75)

Light motor vehicles diesel- Rs 110 (75)

Heavy motor vehicles- Rs 150 (100)
