KOCHI: A recent report suggests that a girl was forcefully admitted to a mental asylum by her family members for refusing to withdraw from a love affair. Following this, police have registered a case against the girl's father, brother and a relative. Police found the girl admitted to a mental hospital in Ernakulam after her family failed to present her in the High court despite a court order.
The girl's family apparently opposed the marriage due to the poor financial condition of the youth. When the two attempted to set off for register marriage, her father intervened and forced her to get admitted to the mental hospital.
It is learnt that the girl was administered several medicines and injections despite the absence of any health issues. Police said that the girl was found in an exhausted and miserable condition. Later, the court allowed the girl to go with her lover. It is learnt that the court has also ordered an inquiry about the functioning of the mental hospital.
