KOLLAMI: In an uncanny incident, a spurned lover allegedly stabbed a 40-year-old married woman to death. The incident happened Wednesday morning at 9.35 am at Keralapuram Anchumukku in Kundara. He stabbed her when she was returning after leaving her daughter in the school.

The woman has been identified as Shaila, a native of Anchumukku. Aneesh (30), the accused also from Keralapuram was on the spot till the police arrived. He has been arrested. He was hiding near her house and when she was returning, he ran behind her and stabbed her on the neck. The woman soon collapsed and was lying on the road for some time. When the Kundara police reached the spot, they found her lying in a pool of blood and soon took her to the district hospital.

She was the wife of a pravasi. Police said she was in a relationship with him earlier and later estranged from him and this may have led to the murder.

The body has been taken to Thiruvananthapuram medical college hospital for post-mortem. The accused will be produced in the court today. Police officials including rural SP Hari Shankar have reached the spot. When their relationship stoked a controversy, a verbal dispute broke out between the two. Police said incidents like setting ablaze the accused bike had happened.
