MUMBAI: The Mumbai police on Friday detained former IAS official Kannan Gopinathan during a protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act in the city. Gopinathan had reached Mumbai to attend the Long March against the CAA.

According to sources, Gopinathan was detained while he was participating in a protest outside Hotel Ambassador in the city. Several others were also detained for violating prohibitory orders.

Gopinathan had resigned from service to protest the denial of rights to the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Home Affairs has announced that Home Minister Amit Shah's visit to Shillong on Sunday has been called off.
