THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In the wake of the criticism made by the High court regarding the poor condition of roads in the cities, the Public Works Department announced that the potholes on the city roads will be repaired within 15 days. It is learnt that the government has announced around Rs 700 crores for road maintenance works.
Earlier, PWD Minister G Sudhakaran responded to the High Court's criticism regarding the condition of roads in the state. According to the minister, both the PWD and the water authority are equally responsible for the accident that caused a youth's death in Palarivattom. The minister even went on to ask whether a judge must be blamed for a large number of pending cases in the courts.
According to Sudhakaran, the PWD cannot be blamed for the pothole in Palarivattom. The pothole on the road in Palarivatom developed because of a broken pipe. "The pipe has been broken for the last 4 months. However, nobody has discussed this issue. I cannot understand why no one is blaming the people who are responsible for the broken pipe," he said. He further pointed out that thewater authority engineers dd not even place an indicator board on the road.
