NEW DELHI: In a recent development, the Tiz Hazari court in Delhi convicted expelled BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar in the Unnao rape and kidnapping case. It is learnt that the court has also acquitted Shashi Singh of the charges.

According to reports, Sengar has been convicted under section 376 of the Indian Penal Code and sections 5(c) and 6 of Protection of Child from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO). It must be noted that the victim was a minor when the crime was committed.

The quantum of sentence for Sengar will be announced on December 18. The trial in the high profile case was held in-camera after the Supreme Court transferred the matter from Unnao to the national capital.

Sengar, a four-time BJP MLA from UP's Bangermau, was expelled from the party in August 2019.
