hartal

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Joint Action Council of socio-political-human rights organisations have called for a hartal from 6am to 6pm on Tuesday. But ironically, prominent Muslim leaders in Kerala have distanced themselves from the hartal.

Muslim League National General Secretary P K Kunhalikutty has said taking part in the hartal will be like playing into the hands of the BJP. On Tuesday, Kanthapuram A P Aboobekker Musliyar had also disapproved of the hartal.

Popular Front, Jamaat-e-Islami and Sunni Mujahid have already made it clear that they would not cooperate with the hartal. Meanwhile, SDPI and Welfare party said they would go ahead with the hartal.

Meanwhile, as per the January 7, 2019 High court order, hartal organisers should give notice seven days ahead of the hartal. The police have announced on its own official webpage that since the hartal organisers have not given prior notice, the hartal to be held on 17-12-2019 would be unlawful.

Therefore if hartal observer destroys properties or cause any damage, the district/state leaders of the organisations which organised hartals will be held responsible for the losses. Legal action will be taken against them, as well.

Besides this, Corporation/Panchayat by-elections will be held on Tuesday across the State. Under this circumstances, if hartal supporters poses obstructions to voters, the leaders will be held responsible for offences related to election.
