CHERTHALA: A police driver was suspended for hitting a PSC official which led to lose one of his teeth during vehicle inspection while returning home after exam duty. Driver Sudheesh of Alappuzha AR Camp was suspended based on the preliminary report of the district police chief.

A probe will be conducted against grade sub inspector Babu and CPO Thomas of Poochakkal Station who were with Sudheesh for the vehicle inspection at Poothottappalam in Cherthala on December 14. A complaint was lodged by Ramesh S Kammath (52) of Cherthala and an official of PSC office in the capital city. The complaint mentioned that he was beaten after stopping his bike in the dark and at a turning while returning after exam duty from Ernakulam. Ramesh said they asked him whether he was drunk and when he said no, they first allowed him to go. After stopping his bike a little further, he asked them doesn’t DGP’s circular says that vehicle inspection should not be conducted in the dark and at a turning. Ramesh also tried to take the photo of the police vehicle. Not liking it, they dragged him into their vehicle and hit him on his head and eyes and in the melee he lost one of his teeth.

He was first charged for obstructing work but later released on bail. M K Sakeer intervened on the issue and lodged a complaint to the DGP.
