Dennis Jospeh is a script-writer who had gifted Malayalis with a handful of wonderful films including Rajavinte Makan, New Delhi, Shyama, Bhoomiyile Rajakkanmar, Number 20 Madras Mail, Kottayam Kunnachan, Manu Uncle, Indrajalam and Akashadoothu.
This scenarist once went through an eerie phase in his life when he lost his ability to write letters, let alone words, he wanted write. He revealed this in an interview given to a media. Though he wished to write a thousand New Delhi, he could not write at least the letter ‘Na’ in Malayalam.
“It was the time when I was scripting the film FIR. After writing 14 scenes I was in a miserable state. When I tried to remember Malayalam letters I drew a blank. I ddin’t know how to write letters like ‘sa’, ‘in’ in Malayalam. When I confronted this state, I would gulp down a peg of liquor and then I would regain my mental balance. Thus I had to drink alcohol 24 hours to remain normal.
Many tried to advice and console me. For months, I remained shut up inside my room on the first floor of my house. I even thought it would have been better to die and it would have happened eventually. Shaji Kailas, Aroma Mani, Sibi Malayil and Joshy used to come to my room and see me.
Later, I got back my life after I came into contact with a person called Kora Jacob , heeding the instruction of one of my relatives.
Cinemas still come my way and I’m still in the path of writing,” the hit-maker recounted.
