KOCHI: The police arrested protesters that violated curfew and marched to the LPG terminal manufacturing in Puthuvype. More than 200 people including women and children marched here. The police had earlier warned of stringent action if the curfew is violated.

The LPG terminal had stopped functioning due to the protests of locals. However, the construction works of the terminal were resumed on Sunday night by deploying the police force. Foreseeing the protests, the security was beefed up in the area and a curfew was declared in 11 wards of Elankunnappuzha Panchayat and the first division of Kochi Corporation. The protests staged last year ended in a police baton charge.

Only 45 percent of the LPG terminal project has been completed till now. Neither govt nor the Indian Oil Corporation was able to reach common ground with the natives of Puthuvype till now.
