NEW DELHI: Congress will hold a 'dharna' at Raj Ghat in Delhi on Monday against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and National Register of Citizens (NRC). Congress' interim president Sonia Gandhi and leader Rahul Gandhi along with other senior leaders will take part in the protest which is scheduled to be held from 2 pm to 8 pm on Monday.
Meanwhile, the party has also decided to conduct a silent protest in Congress-ruling states which will be led by the respective Chief Ministers.
This comes a day after Sonia Gandhi criticized the central government for using "brute force" to suppress people's voice against the CAA. She had also assured that Congress is committed to defending their fundamental rights.
Though the leadership had initially planned to conduct the rally on Sunday, they were forced to postpone it to Monday as the police did not give permission for the rally on Sunday. It is learnt that the police have denied permission as Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be conducting a rally at Ram Leela maidan on Sunday.
