KOCHI: A group of film personalities and socio-cultural leaders took out a long march in Kochi, in protest against Citizens Rights Bill, despite Prime Minister Narendra Modi assuring the people in a public rally on Sunday that the bill has nothing to do with Indians including Indian Muslims.
Directors Kamal, Ashiq Abu, actresses Geethu Mohandas, Nimisha Sajayan, Rima Kallingal, scriptwriter Unni R, N S Madhavan, actors Shane Nigam, Manikantan, Music Director Shahabaz Aman, anchor Ranjini Haridas, Rashmi Satheesh, scriptwriter Shyam Pushkaran, director Archana Padmini and cinematographer Venu took part.
The march that started from Rajendra Maidan ended at Fort Kochi. The main slogan of the march was “Ottakkalla Ottakettu” (Not alone but single entity).
Ashiq Abu said that the Citizens Rights Amendment Act is a serious political issue. “No one can stand away from it… One should protest in every possible way,” he said.
Shane Nigam said that in the country things are not happening in the right manner and this protest is for setting it right. Earlier in the day, a Facebook group members had also held a rally against the Citizenship Rights Act.
