KOZHIKODE: A court on Thursday fined twelve people including historian M G S Narayanan for blocking Mamanchira-Vellimadukunnu Road. Twelve people including M G S Narayanan, Grovasu and Thayattu Balan have been asked to pay Rs 1300 each.

Meanwhile, Narayanan said that he welcomed the court verdict but would not withdraw from the protest. “I shall go ahead with the protest, according to what my conscious says,” he said.

The court had observed that the protests, blocking roads, was denial of freedom of transportation and such means of protests would affect the general public.
This is for the first time that MGS is being punished by a court.

The Mamanchira-Vellimadamkunnu road under Public Works department currently has only a width of 8 metre. The protestors demand is that this should be widened to 24 metre.

The protestors say that out of Rs 100 cr allotted by Road Fund Board only a little amount was utilised. Recently more than 100 people died here in road accident.
It was after this that protests under Thayattu Balan and others started.

The protestors blocked Malaparambu National Road on July 29. The police later arrested and removed them from the spot.
