THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The other day a few DYFI men had allegedly smashed the head of a Bihari hotel staff in Thiruvananthapuram after he refused to serve them Savala Onion for the fourth time.
The incident happened at Vanchiyoor Kaithamukku Vettukattil hotel on December 25. The attack victim is hotel worker Peeru Muhammad. Hotel owner Shankar, wife Divya and receptionist Santhosh Kumar also got beaten up by the four-member gang during their attempt to protect Peeru Muhammad.
According to the police, Muhammad was beaten up with an Appam-making utensil as well as water jug; he was later admitted to a private hospital in Karamana.
The goons were drunk and they demanded Savala Onion as side dish for parotta and meat. Though they were served with Savala three times, the hotel staff refused to give it for the fourth time. This irked the goons, who started picking a quarrel with the hotel staff.
During this time, a few from the gang vandalised the hotel. They snatched cooking utensils and smashed the parcel counter.
In the melee, hotel owner and others also got beaten up. The trouble-makers also hit Peru Muhammad with a jug filled with water. As his injured head started bleeding, the attackers fled the spot.
The police reached the spot after hotel owner informed them. By examining the CCTV visuals in the hotel, the police could identify the miscreants and a case was registered against them.
The accused are DYFI Vanchiyoor area committee president Ranjith, Secretary Dheneeth, area treasurer Ajith, Vipin and Manu.
