KOZHIKODE: A complaint has been lodged for threatening to set ablaze Kuttiyady Velam panchayat member by dousing petrol. The death threat was towards Leela Aryankavil, member of the 16th ward member of the panchayat office. Balan, a native of Velam has been taken into custody in connection with the incident.

He tried to douse petrol on her body after trying her in chains. Panchayat authorities and the locals prevented him from setting her ablaze and rushed her to the hospital. He was later handed over to the police.

Leela told police that he tried to douse petrol on her body after tying her up. Locals said the reason for the threat is the issue following non-provision of a house under the Life Mission.
