THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala law minister AK Balan on Thursday defended the anti-CAA resolution passed by the state assembly. Responding to governor Arif Mohammad Khan's claim that the resolution is unconstitutional, Balan said that there is nothing unconstitutional about the resolution. "The anti-CAA resolution passed by the assembly is not an unconstitutional one as a state has every right to make a request to the centre through a resolution," he said. He also added that similar resolutions have been passed by various state governments in the past.
Meanwhile, several Congress leaders came out criticizing the governor for supporting the CAA. While demanding the governor's resignation, senior leader and Vadakara MP K Muraleedharan said that the Arif Mohammad Khan cannot be addressed as a governor as he is acting like a BJP agent. Muraleedharan made the remark at the inaugural function of the Desharaksha Long March in Kuttiyadi. Former chief minister Oommen Chandy too lashed out at the governor by urging the chief minister to take necessary action against him.
