NEW DELHI: Former IAS officer Kannan Gopinathan, who was on his way to attend an anti-citizenship law protest at Aligarh Muslim University, has been detained at UP border on Saturday. Gopinathan was scheduled to speak at the AMU protest on Saturday. The program was scheduled afternoon at 2:30 pm. Gopinathan took to Twitter to inform about his detention.
The former Malayali IAS officer also shared a picture of the detention order and said the police behaved decently. Gopinathan said he was taken to hotel instead of a police station but he doesn't know why. There is a magistrate order banning his entry to Aligarh district.

Gopinathan had resigned from service to protest against the restrictions imposed in Jammu and Kashmir following the abrogation of Article 370. He opined that the happenings in the country and wrong and those who choose to remain silent are traitors. The former IAS officer had said that the administration is free to do as they deem fit and but they cannot deny the right to respond.
