KOCHI: A meeting presided by Ernakulam District Collector S Suhas has decided to conduct a mock drill before the demolition of the controversial flats in Maradu. It has also been decided that prohibitory order will be imposed in the regions surrounding the flats during the time of demolition. The prohibitory order will be imposed from 9 am on Saturday.
The mock drill will be conducted on Friday. Special control rooms will be set up for facilitating the arrangements. The meeting also concluded that the public will be allowed to witness the demolition from a certain area. More than 2000 people residing in the surrounding regions of the flats will be evacuated. Authorities will also seek help from medical teams to carry out the evacuation of bedridden patients. It has also been ordered that an ample amount of electricity must be provided in the area during the time of demolition.
Authorities also announced that traffic restrictions will be imposed in the region 30 minutes prior to the demolition. An earlier meeting attended by the sub-collector and the commissioner had concluded that there will not be any change in the sequence and time of demolition works. While Alfa Serene and Holy Faith H2O will be demolished on January 11, Jains Coral Cove and Golden Kayaloram will be demolished on January 12.
