THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: White topping road made using a special kind of concrete and with a guarantee of 25 years will soon become a reality in Kerala. The highlight is that the road will not get washed away in rain water.
The experimentation with the new kind of road will be done first in the Capital City –Thiruvananthapuram. For this, roads along Vellayambalam-Vazhuthacaud-Thycaud, Manacaud-Thiruvallom, Attakkulangara-Killippalam roads have been chosen.
Proposal for white topping was given as the condition of roads had become horrible following floods and as accidents became common on Kerala roads.
For building the roads, technical advice from a Bengaluru company has been sought. Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Maharashtra had introduced white topping much earlier.
The main advantage of White topping road visa-vis roads tarred using Bitumen Macadam concrete is that the former lasts long and the maintenance will also be very little.
