THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The functioning of BSNL Kerala Circle will come to a standstill as employees are planning to opt for Voluntary Retirement Scheme (VRS) en masse.
These employees are the ones who are currently posted in the technical and administrative departments of the BSNL. On the other hand, there is no range for BSNL networks even now and the mass retirement of officers will throw BSNL functioning out of gear. Among the subscribes, there is a feeling now that the BSNL network will be out of range, more often in the future due to staff shortage.
Out of 66 persons under the designation of Deputy General Manager (TELECOM), 57 persons will be calling it a day. All employees in Kozhikode, Kollam, Kannur, Palakka, Pathanamthitta and Thrissur districts have applied for VRS.
Among Finance DGMs, 12 except one are leaving the job. 510 out 2205 Junior Telecon officer/sub-division engineers are retiring. There are 394 employees under Junior Accounts Officer/Accounts Officer category. Among them, 115 persons are quitting their job.
Out of 57 chief Accounts Officers, just 11 will be left. All these officers will resign on January 31.
Meanwhile, there are moves to recruit temporary employees to the posts that would become vacant soon while the current employees asks how far this could be practical.
