THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Chief Secretary met Governor Arif Mohammad Khan on Monday and gave explanation on the intention of the government behind moving the Supreme Court against Citizenship Rights Law (CAA).
“The governor was not deliberately ignored. Earlier also, the State government has questioned the Centre’s laws in the court. During all those times, the governor’s permission was not sought,” clarified the chief secretary.
The secretary said the government had approached the Supreme Court to ward off the anxiety of people over Citizenship Rights Amendment Act.
Earlier, the governor had asked for the government’s explanation over the petition filed in the Supreme Court against CAA. He had blamed the government for moving the court without informing him. He had also opposed the resolution passed by the Kerala Assembly against the CAA.
Chief secretary Tom Jose explained the circumstances that led to the filing of the petition. He explained the government stand that it had not breached the rules of business.
