THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala Governor Arif Mohammad Khan has rejected the explanation given by the State government over the petition filed in the Supreme Court against the Citizenship Rights Amendment Act (CAA).
“No explanation is satisfactory…None of the justifications of the government is acceptable. What I had pointed out was the unlawful step of the government. This is not ego clash and there is nothing personal about it.
The government had approached the court without informing me. It is not legal. In democracy, each individual has rights.
That right is not a licence for violating laws. As per the law, the government is not supposed to approach the apex court without informing the governor.
The governor made the above rejection while speaking to media persons on his way to Lucknow on Monday.
Earlier in the day, Chief Secretary Tom Jose went to Rajbhavan and met the governor. He told the governor that the government had approached the court to clear doubts on CAA and ward off people’s anxieties over the act.
