MALAPPURAM: Kerala police have filed a case against Karnataka BJP MP Shobha Karandlaje for spreading news that panchayat had denied drinking water to Hindu families in Kuttipuram for taking part in a pro-CAA programme.
The case has been filed under 153 A for trying to spread communal enmity based on a complaint that the news was fake. The other day, the MP posted on her Twitter handle: “Kerala is taking baby steps to become another Kashmir!
Hindus of Kuttipuram Panchayat of Malappuram was denied water supply as they supported #CAA2019.#SevaBharati has been supplying water ever since.
Will Lutyens telecast this intolerance of PEACEFULS frm God's Own Country!?”
The case was registered based on a complaint by Subhash Chandran KR, a native of Kuttipuram village in Malappuram and a Supreme Court advocate.
Shobha Karandlaje has been made the first accused and Ganesh of Sevabharathi -- a right-wing group -- and others also as accused.
According to Subhash Chandran's complaint, the tweet by the MP is based on a fake narrative and will "harm the religious harmony". “The MP has made a deliberate attempt to destroy the communal harmony in area and trigger communal violence.”
Meanwhile, Kuttipuram Police, panchayat member and locals explained that the supply of water had been disrupted for the past eight months in certain areas of Kuttippuram after the motor developed some complaint.
“The panchayat has been trying to solve the issue and it was at this time that some came out with a false narrative,” Kuttippuram panchayat member and Woman League leader Vaseema Valery said.
