BEIJING: China continues to reel under the coronavirus outbreak as the death toll reached 106 with 4193 confirmed cases. On Monday alone, 1,300 people were diagnosed with the disease. Meanwhile, the virus has spread to more and more countries while the world continues to be vigilant against the disease. The virus was lastly confirmed in Sri Lanka, Cambodia and Canada.
So far the death toll has risen by 23 per cent and the number of infected people by 31 per cent. A total of 32,799 people who were in close contact with patients are under observation. The virus has been reported in all provinces of China. World Health Organization (WHO) Director General visited China to assess the situation. WHO has said that the extent of the virus outbreak is huge and doctors who treat patients need to take strict precautions.
Health Minister K K Shailaja asserted that 288 persons in Kerala are under observation in the wake of the coronavirus scare. Of these, 281 are under observation at home and seven in various hospitals. None of the tests confirmed the disease. But two have been found to be infected with H1N1. Blood samples of the suspects have been sent to Pune Virology Institute.
