KOZHIKODE: A local leader of the Muslim League has been suspended from the party for partaking in the human chain organised by the LDF against Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). The party suspended Beypore mandalam vice-president K M Basheer.

Basheer attended the programme held in Kozhikode on the Republic day. The decision of the Muslim League is that activists should not attend any protests staged without discussing it with the UDF. It has been alleged that Basheer attended the protests violating the decision. Action was taken against Basheer despite differences in the league on party activists attending the human chain. Muslim League state general secretary K P A Majeed had asserted earlier that if anyone attends the programme violating the decision of the UDF, action would be taken against them.

Deputy opposition leader M K Muneer is of the stand that there is nothing wrong in attending the programme as the party had not asked them not to attend the programme. All party activists are partaking in the protests against the Citizenship Amendment ACT (CAA).

Basheer’s response was that he attended the programme as a citizen to protect the country’s constitution and secularism. State president Panakkad Hyderali Thangal had not directed the activists not to attend the programmes staged by the CPM. There is a sentiment beyond this in politics. Attended the protests where everyone should stand together and not for the party committee. Leaders of both Sunni and Mujaheed organizations have participated in it. So what's the matter with only an activist like me? Ready to accept the action taken by the party, he said.
