KOCHI: A youth has alleged that he was denied police clearance certificate for taking part in a rally against Citizenship Rights Amendment Act. The complainant is Aluva Kadooppadam native Anaz but the police said it was part of the usual procedures.

Anaz had applied for clearance certificate at Aluva East Police Station for a job in Cochin Shipyard. The SI’s explanation was that clearance could be given only after a detailed enquiries about him as he had taken part in the protest rally

Anaz had applied on Tuesday for working under a contractor and when he went to receive the clearance certificate, he was sent back by the police, saying that the certificate could not be issued.

Soon after coming to know about the incident, V. K. Ebrahimkunju MLA and others had reached the police station in the night and protested. Anaz said he was not an accused in any criminal case. “The SI had asked whether I had taken part in anti-CAA rally and I told him that I had taken part in the rally that started from UC college premise of Veliyathunadu Mahallu Co-ordination Committee to Alangottu.,” he said.
