KOCHI: The Kerala High Court on Friday said that those who are encouraging women to travel at night should also ensure road safety in the state. The court made the direction while considering a plea addressing the poor condition of the roads in the state.

The situation of our roads is so bad that even men are finding it difficult to travel at night. Most of the street lights are not working and the city of Ernakulam becomes desolated after 8 pm, the court observed. Stating that a good road is a constitutional right, the court also added that the authorities must take immediate actions to improve the condition and improve road safety.

The court also lashed out at the engineers by adding that their responsibilities do not come to an end with the passing of the tender bills.
