KOLLAM: An expat committed suicide here for not able to clear his debt. Ajayakumar, a native of Plathara in Kollam Punalur, took a loan of Rs 4 lakhs in 2016 for house construction from an agricultural cooperative bank. After some time, he had to leave his job and return home. He couldn't repay the increasing debt and the bank initiated recovery procedures.

The depression due to the increasing debt is cited as the reason for his suicide.
