THODUPUZHA: Some shopkeepers had shut their shops when the BJP held pro-CAA meetings in several places recently, resulting in minor clashes at some of these places.

But the other day, the police issued notice to shopkeepers, asking them not to down the shutters when BJP meetings were going on. The notice was issued at Karimannoor in Thodupuzha.

Police also warned of strong action if shops are shut without permission.

“This sort of shutting shops will create communal divide in society. So, don’t create any law and order issue,” the police say in its notice.
At Karimannur, BJP’s Janajagratha forum was held in the evening.

“At places like Thookkupalam, there were minor tussle. The notices were issued to avoid untoward incidents,” the police said.
However, when the police action was questioned by some, the explanation given was that notices were served only to a few shopkeepers.
