KOZHIKODE: Two robberies were reported in two trains-Chennai-Mangalore Superfast and Malabar Express-with gold worth over Rs 20 lakh looted from both.
Of the two, the bigger theft took place in Chennai Superfast. Diamonds, gold jewellery and money amounting to Rs 15 lakhs of Chennai native Ponnimaran-travelling from Mangalore to Kannur was robbed. He was travelling in an AC compartment. Ponnimaran has lodged a complaint with the Kozhikode CI.
Around 9.5 sovereigns of gold, which belonged to Kanhangad natives, were robbed from the Thiruvananthapuram-Mangalore Malabar Express.
According to the police, both the robberies might have been committed by 4 members of a single gang. They also added that the crimes must have been committed near Tirur and Vadakara-Mahe regions.
