THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Local body polls will not be delayed in the name of voters list, said Minister A C Moideen. The state election commission will be given all possible assistance to conduct the elections in a timely manner, the minister said.

The minister clarified his stance soon after a division bench of the high court directed not to use the voters list of 2015 in the local body polls.

The court order does not seem to be a setback for the government. The polls will not be extended following a tiff with the election commission, instead will provide all assistance to the commission to conduct the polls in a timely manner, the minister added.

The high court on Thursday accepted UDF’s plea questioning the order the election commission to use the voters list of 2015 for the local body polls. The court has directed the commission to conduct the polls using the voters list of 2019.
