NEW DELHI: The incident of examining students of Shree Sahajanand Girls Institute whether they were on their period had sparked a controversy. Four including the principal were arrested following the complaint of 60 students. When the incident stoked a controversy, the national women’s commission had reached the hostel on Sunday and held talks with the girls. There were widespread protests following the incident. Even as the controversy refuses to die down anytime soon, Swami Krushnaswarup Dasji of Swaminarayan Bhuj Mandir in a series of controversial statements said, “If you eat food prepared by a menstruating woman even once, then your next avatar will definitely be of a ‘balad’ (ox). A menstruating woman who cooks for her husband will certainly be reborn as ‘kutri’ (bitch). Swami’s statements have created shockwaves.

The video clip in which these remarks were made has been culled from a speech that he gave an year ago to an audience.

He adds that this is the first time in 10 years that he is advising his followers. “Everyone will feel that I am strict. The saints have asked me not to talk about our religion’s secrets. But if I do not say then (you) will never understand,” he said.

He goes on to say that men should learn to cook if they do not want to bear the negative effects of eating food cooked by menstruating women.
