Mohanlal's politics is often discussed among the public following his reaction to various political and social issues. There were reports that the actor may contest the polls as a BJP candidate in the last Lok Sabha polls. But it was all just speculation. Now, the things asserted by Santhosh, actor and Mohanlal’s friend has gone viral in the social media. Santhosh, in an interview to a media mentioned about Mohanlal’s politics during his college days. He said, ‘Mohanlal was a SFI activist and I a DSU activist. We were not so close that time. Both of us studied in M G College for pre-degree and degree. Mohanlal was a commerce student and my subject was maths.

Mohanlal maintains close relationship with BJP leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Mohanlal wishing Modi on his birthday and the latter thanking him--all this was seen as the actor’s political entry. The actor had called on Modi in New Delhi. Soon the actor was conferred with Padma Award also.
