KANNUR: Karthyayani’s life with goats, cats and dogs has hit a half century. She is 68 now. Now she has with her 50 goats, 20 dogs and 10 cats.

There is no special shed for goats. The old woman and all animals live happily and comfortably under one roof. This goat life of Pinaryi Parapram native Karthyayani began even from her mother Narayani’s time. After her mother’s death Karthiyayani’s only companions have been these four-legged beings.

The goats are left to graze in her half-acre land adjacent to her house. Her earnings are from old-age pension and the wage she gets from her jobs under employment guarantee scheme.
.
Karthiyayani has no plans to sell the goats’ milk or send them to slaughter house because she loves them so much. Her only wish is to live with her pet animals till her last day.

Interestingly, her dogs, who have a special room in her house, turn perfect guards for the household and its inmates. The leader of the herd of dogs is the female dog named Nayanthara.
