THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Left Democratic Front (LDF) leadership that met here on Friday decided to field a candidate from the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) in the upcoming by-election in Kuttanad assembly. It must be noted that the seat had fallen vacant following the death of NCP MLA Thomas Chandy.
According to sources, NCP is likely to field Thomas K Thomas, brother of Thomas Chandy, as its candidate in the by-election. The party, that had contested from the constituency during the last three elections, will soon make an official announcement on the candidate.
On the other hand, Congress is looking forward to taking over the seat from the Kerala Congress. However, sources said that Kerala Congress leader Jose K Mani is reluctant in giving up the seat. According to KPCC president Mullappally Ramachandran, a decision regarding this will be taken at a meeting that will be held on February 25.
